FAQS

Design Production

Q: How do you determine if you will produce a recommended design as an Enamel pin?

A: We use 4 separate criteria to determine whether or not we will do a design (Age, Consent and Erotic Material, Legal Rights, Free Use / Parody, Overall Popularity) Age, Consent, Erotic material laws We release erotic designs and all designs depicted are 18+ years of age or older and are consenting adults. We will not produce designs that go against this policy or any laws in North America that relate to or imply illegal forms of erotic material. (E.g. Child pornography (loli), rape, bestiality, gore, etc.) Aging up characters through the passage of time through clear depiction of development through puberty and changes to their overall aesthetic are acceptable (E.g. longer/pubic hair, larger breasts, etc.). As is the use of a completely different art style to express the character in an erotic nature and/or the use of a model to depict the character in adult cosplay scenarios. Legal Rights We are willing to produce designs if the intellectual property owner has allowed commercialized production of their characters. (E.g. Mihoyo, etc.) Free Use / Parody We respect the intellectual property rights of other organizations, but also make use of fair use law. Thus we would be able to make a design that is a parody and/or transformative and clearly adds another element to the original work. (E.g. Erotic, humorous, Fusions, etc.) Overall Popularity We have to take into account the overall general popularity of the character as a factor in determining whether or not to produce the design as there is a high dollar value investment and a lot of work that goes into a design. Well established / Underdog Some characters may be quite well established in their lore and/or underdogs that a lot of people have expressed interest in, but have never seen a design for.

Product Requests

Q: Can you make X product out of your designs?
A: Requested products from designs will be taken into consideration and assessed on a case by case basis. Products will have a higher likelihood of making it to the main store if it meets the following criteria: Will it benefit our the collectors in our community? Uses existing artwork or requires little modification to existing artwork and pantone colors to transform into the alternative medium. Provides a new demographic audience with similar tastes to the existing one with similar collection habits. Will result in low business risk and/or investment. E.g. Interchangeable inventory / packaging, same sizing requirements, Safely shipped via courier, etc.

Ai Artwork

Q: Do you or will you ever use Ai for the artwork in your designs?

A: We will never use Ai art to create our products for the following reasons. 1. We believe that art is a unique form of person to person communication that is innovative and transformative in nature. The small nuances and details are what make art special and a lot of thought goes into each illustration so that you can stare at it for hours noticing the details and references. 2. We value the relationship with our artists and will continue to work with them collaboratively towards making the best products possible. Pinning is a slow game and art can be drawn a lot faster than a pin can be made. Partnering with artists gives us the ability to not only make the best art possible with the combination of ideas, but also the ability to collaborate and increase our following. 3. “A picture is worth 1000 words” is an old saying that has a lot of truth. If it takes us an entire essay to refine a piece of art and tell the Ai what to draw (positive prompts) and what not to draw (negative prompts) then it would take us an entire novel to get the nuanced styles we are looking for. It is easier to convey the idea to a professional artist in a few sentences to a few paragraphs. 4. AI art is simply copying existing artists and drawing a derivative of existing artwork. While artist of today do something similar when they begin to hone their craft, they will eventually develop their own unique style that is unique to them. Ai does not have the capacity to truly innovate and draw something that is innovative or develop it’s own “style” of drawing. (E.g. Akira Toriyama) 5. Ai Artworks, as determined by law are not copyrightable thus not useful to a business as we continue to do some OC’s.

Color Tones Prints

Q: Why are some of the color tones different from the picture versus the print?
A: The colors that you see on your monitor are RGB which translate into a HEX code that consists of 16,777,216 colors. Ink printers use CMYK colors as a standard method to mix colors and that system only has 16,000 colors total. Therefore the potential tones will be slightly off when comparing the two images.

Color Tones Enamel Pins

Q: Why are some of the color tones different from the picture versus the final pin?
A: The colors that you see on your monitor are RGB which translate into a HEX code that consists of 16,777,216 colors. Pin manufacturers use Pantone colors as a standard method international to mix colors and that system only has 2,161 colors total. Therefore the potential tones could be off when comparing the two images, but what is more important is the colors adjacent to each other on the final pin and whether or not those work together.

Pin Fine Details

Q: Why are there missing highlights and shadows in the final pin?
A: When reducing the size of the image to fit a 4” or less pin there were decisions made to increase the clarity of the pin in certain areas by removing lighting effects or shadows so that the final pin will have a cleaner look and so that the manufacturer can produce them with less errors. There will always be a margin of error for printing (Screen, Pad, or UV).

Pin Prices

Q: Why are your pins so expensive?
A: Our costs are researched thoroughly and are at or below the industry standard for stores of our equivalent size. The cost of pins factor in costs from original artist commissions, Vector artist costs, Store listing fees, (Payment/Shipping) Transaction fees, Importation fees, packaging costs, factory error % loss and Pin production costs which include a mold that varies between $250 - 400. In addition to all of the base costs the size of our pins are much larger than your standard 1 - 2” and we add substantially more features to them such as: glow in the dark, glitter, unique plating, hinges, chains, pearlescent enamel, sandblasted textures, stained glass, and gems. The pin compositions are unique and far from your standard cheap pin that you would get from a corporate IP. Your money goes towards the one-of-a-kind design and time it takes prepare these art pieces for you.
